Retro Carved Green Bakelite Buddha Pin

SKU: 13655

Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non-conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bright, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.

An artistic Buddha pin from the Retro (ca1940) era! This creative piece is made of hand-carved Bakelite and has an olive green color marbled with swirls of yellow throughout. The universally recognized symbol of Buddha has been depicted in countless works of art throughout the ages, and has also been a longstanding representation in jewelry. Traditionally shown in a state of deep meditation, Buddha represents a harmonious balance of both wisdom and inner peace. This particular piece shows Buddha sitting cross-legged and has carved detail representing facial features and folds of fabric draped around his shoulders. On the back of the piece is a simple bar pin and clasp, allowing it to be easily fastened to a favorite garment. A very unique Bakelite piece, it is perfect for any collector and would make a fun addition to any collection!

Measurements: The pin measures 1 7/8" tall, 1 3/4" wide, and is slightly more than 1/4" at the thickest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage, chips, or cracks to the carved Bakelite, and the pin clasp is secure and in good working condition.
