A Figa is a symbol worn around the world to attract good luck to the person wearing it. It's depicted by a single clenched fist and can be made of a material such as metal, wood, stone or ivory, and is traditionally thought to bring good luck only if it is given as a gift.

A wonderful and unusual Figa pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This fantastic hand-carved piece is made of tortoise shell (now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry is very collectible) and is detailed with 18kt yellow gold accents. The piece depicts a three dimensional arm topped with an 18kt yellow gold cap, and encircling the wrist is a gold bangle bracelet. The clenched fist is carved with realistic detail depicting individual fingers, each of which is accented with a gold fingernail. The piece hangs from a simple bail affixed to the gold cap. A fabulous example of the Figa design incorporated into jewelry, it would look perfect hanging from a long gold chain and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The large Figa pendant hangs approximately 3" long, measures 5/8" at the widest point, and is 1/2" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved tortoise shell figa or to the gold accents, and the bail is secure and in good working condition.
