A wonderful medallion festoon necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unique sterling silver compilation features 7 medallions that hang from a graduated curb link chain. Each medallion is unique in size and shape, all featuring either a rose gold or sterling shield at the center. Multiple stamps and markings can be found on the curb links and the backs of the medallions, some with commemorative inscriptions. All of the medals are stamped with English hallmarks, including lion and anchor symbols as well as maker's initials. The necklace fastens with a watch swivel clasp at the back, and a toggle bar hangs beside the center medallion, a perfect finishing touch! The compilation of medallions makes this necklace very special and visually striking. It would make a unique addition to any Victorian collection!
Measurements: The entire length of the chain measures 17.5" long. The medallions measure between 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" each in size. The toggle bar 1 1/2" long.
Condition: The necklace is in very good antique condition. There are some normal signs of light surface wear to the metal, and a natural patina that lends a darkened antique appearance to the silver. This is normal for Victorian era jewelry and adds to its special character! All of the added medallions hang securely from the cuban link chain, and the clasp is in good working condition. There are some dings to the silver ring that meets the clasp at the back, which is not visible when worn.
