During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s onward, and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics.

An exquisite Egyptian Revival necklace from the Art Nouveau (ca1900s) era! This absolutely gorgeous and unique piece is crafted in 14kt yellow gold and comprised of multiple amber and opal cabochons that hang from a dramatic centerpiece pendant. With a total of six amber stones, the rich fossilized resin displays a warm golden color and translucent quality with flecks of natural inclusions throughout. The amber varies in size and shape and each is held within an ornate gold bezel setting that is encircled by a textured frame. The delicate opal stones are smaller in size and each is hand carved to depict a fabulous scarab beetle. The opals have an incredible array of iridescent colors in hues of yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink, beautifully complimenting the rich amber. The center of the piece has a cross-like shape and three links dangle below in a festoon style, each with amber and opal cabochons in differing sizes. The center link connects to two amber cabochons on either side and attaches to a gold box chain which hooks into the top of one amber stones at the front of the necklace. The back of the pendant centerpiece has the hallmark "Claxton" along with "S.F. CAL." This outstanding necklace serves as a wonderful example of both the Art Nouveau and Egyptian Revival eras. It has a gorgeous design and drapes beautifully when worn. It would make a very special addition to any jewelry collection!

Measurements: The necklace measures 16" in total length. The centerpiece hangs approximately 3 3/8" long from top to bottom and is 1 1/2" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or to any of the amber and opal stones, all of which are intact. The clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition.
