A fabulous and unusual gold nugget and carved horn crescent moon necklace from the late Victorian (ca1900s) era! Crafted in 14kt rosy yellow gold, the front of the crescent is adorned with delicate gold nuggets that would have most likely been a collectable souvenir from the Alaska gold rush. Due to their natural formation, each nugget is uniquely shaped and varies slightly in size, with a rich natural textured surface. Bezel set in a raised manner is a fabulous crescent moon hand carved from horn, displaying gorgeous tan and deep brown hues that perfectly complement the vibrant gold setting. Attached at either side of the pendant is a delicate yellow gold interlocking chain that fastens in the back at a spring ring clasp stamped with a "375" gold purity mark. The necklace rests beautifully along the neckline, and stamped on the back of the pendant is "ALASKA GOLD". It is a unique and beautiful piece with a fantastic history, and would look lovely worn day or night!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 19" in total length. The crescent itself measures 1 1/4" in diameter and nearly 3/16" at its deepest point.
Condition: The necklace is in overall excellent condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the gold nuggets. The horn is intact and securely set within its bezel. The chain and its spring ring are secure and in good working condition.
