Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bold, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.
A fantastic and funky Bakelite bangle from the Retro (ca1950s) era! This fashionable bangle has a colorful design, comprised of bright creamed corn colored Bakelite dots inlaid upon a black background. The colors beautifully complement each other to create a bold contrast in this classic and collectable Bakelite design. The bracelet, which is particularly wide, slips on and off easily, and would look fabulous worn as a stand-alone piece, or stacked with other bangles for a layered look. Measurements: The inside of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) has a diameter of 2 5/8". It would fit nicely on a medium/average sized wrist. The surface of the bracelet measures about 1" wide and 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, including a couple minor nicks, there is no serious damage to the Bakelite.
