Guilloché is an engraving technique in in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloche surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel.
A spectacular guilloché fob from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in vibrant 14k yellow gold, this piece begins with a watch swivel clasp, which would allow the piece to secure to a favorite gold chain. The fob then features a triangualr-shaped link, which is decorated with light orange enameling, and a central white and gold "bullseye" motif. The fob then features a large oval-shaped link, which is decorated with vibrant orange, green, gold, and white enameling. The orange oval-shaped panel is surrounded by a brown oval-shaped border, which is decorated with small white dots. The bottom of the fob features three dangling oblong links, which are three-dimensional and decorated with dark green enameling and small white dots. The fob is double-sided, and the guillocohe enameling is present on both sides of the fob. A highly-intricate fob, this piece would make a lovely addition to any Victorian-era jewelry collection!
Measurements: The fob has a height of 3" and measures 1" at its widest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. There is no damage to the gold setting, and all of the enameling is secure and intact. The watch swivel clasp at the top of the fob is secure and in working order.
