French paste is a vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
A beautiful pair of French paste earrings from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! These lovely earrings are crafted in 14k yellow gold, and have a simple, feminine design. The earrings each being with a simple circular ball surmount, which then leads to a sparkling French paste stone that is held within a multi-prong setting. Each earring is accompanied by a 14k earring wire. A simply stunning pair of earrings, they would look beautiful worn day or night!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 1 1/8" long (including the wire top), and is just under 3/8" at its widest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold settings, and the French paste stones are intact. The earring wires are secure and in good working condition.
