A stunning pin from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 14k yellow gold, this piece depicts the"Rod of Asclepius" from Greek mythology. The Greek god, Asclepius, is associated with healing and medicine, and his staff is depicted in many modern medical designs. The design features a central staff, which is topped with a three-dimensional cap, which resembles an acorn. The twisting body of a single serpent wraps around the rod, and the top of the piece also features a three-dimensional pair of wings. The acorn, snake, and wings are decorated with intricate engravings, which add a lifelike quality to the pin. The backside of the piece features a simple pin clasp, which would allow the piece to easily attach to a blazer or blouse. A fantastic piece, this pin would make a marvelous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pin measures approximately 2 1/2" long and measures 5/8" at its widest point.
Condition: The pin is in excellent condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The pin clasp is secure and in working order.
