French paste is a vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
A beautiful pair of French paste earrings from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! These lovely earrings are crafted in 14k yellow gold and sterling silver, and have a simple, feminine design. Each earring features a single sparkling French paste stone that is held within a smooth and simple bezel-setting. Each earring is accompanied by a 14k earring wire. A simply stunning pair of earrings, they would look beautiful worn day or night!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 5/8" long (including the wire top), and measure 1/4" at their widest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or sterling silver setting, and the paste stones are secure and intact. The earring wires are securely attached and in working order.
