The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
An incredible intaglio ring from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! This phenomenal ring is crafted in 18k vibrant yellow gold, and features a carved intaglio square-shaped carnelian stone. The carvings depict a crest, which is adorned with a shield, scrolling-motifs, and a feathers. The intaglio is held within a smooth and simple bezel-setting. The carnelian is surrounded by an additional gold, square-shaped frame, which is decorated with geometric engravings. The shoulders of the ring feature scrolling-motif engravings, and the remainder of the band is smooth and simple. A bold piece, this ring would make a dashing addition to any Victorian-era jewelry collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size 6.75 but could be resized. The centerpiece has a height of 1/2" and a width of 1/2". The band has a width of 2.1mm.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or carved carnelian stone, which is intact ands securely set.
