A phenomenal locket from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 18k yellow gold, the front surface of the oval-shaped locket is adorned with deep black enameling. The front of the locket is also decorated with seven rose cut diamonds, which are all bead-set, and surrounded by star-motif frames. The backside of the locket is smooth and simple, and the top of the piece features a bail, which is encrusted with small rose cut diamonds. Overall, the diamonds have an approximate total carat weight of .40ctw. The piece opens and closes with a discreet mechanism on the side of the locket. When opened, the locket features an oval-shaped frame, which currently holds a Victorian-era portrait of a bearded man. However, the photograph could easily be removed and replaced by a personal memento. A fabulous piece, this locket would make a fantastic addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1 1/2" long, is 7/8" wide, and approximately 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The enameling and diamonds are all secure and intact. The bail and opening mechanism on the side of the locket are both secure and in working order.
