This rare English mourning ring from the Victorian era (ca1895) is quite an unusual piece! Crafted in 15k vibrant yellow gold, the ring is richly detailed, and serves as a fine example of the mourning jewelry tradition. The front of the ring features a three-dimensional buckle motif, and features texturizing wheat-motif engravings. Covering the surface of the shank is an exposed band of finely woven brunette hair, the keepsake of a lost loved one. The top and bottom edge of the ring are smooth and simple, and the inside of the shank is stamped with a maker's mark which reads: "SP & C", the number "15", a "625" purity mark, an anchor-motif, and the letter "b". These hallmarks indicate that the piece was crafted in England. A one-of-a-kind piece, this ring would make a lovely addition to any mourning jewelry collection!
Measurements: The ring is a size 5.25, and could not be resized. The band has a width of 4.1mm.
Condition: The ring is in excellent antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The woven band of hair remains intact, and is very well preserved.
