A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!
A lovely gold spinner fob from the Victorian (1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this double-sided fob features both a circular, bezel-set plaque of carnelian and bloodstone. The carnelian displays an incredible reddish-orange hue, and the bloodstone displays a deep green hue and features red speckling. The top of the spinner fob features a curb-link arch, and the top of the piece features a complimentary bail, which would allow the piece to easily attach to a silver chain or bracelet. The rim of the spinner fob features a small anchor hallmark, the letter "u", an arrow-motif, and a maker's mark which reads: "J.C". These hallmarks indicate that the piece was crafted in England. A unique piece, this fob would make an excellent addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements:The fob has a height of 1 3/8" and a width of 1".
Condition:The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, and the complimentary bail is in working order. Both the carnelian and bloodstone plaques are secure and intact.
