The snake has been a powerful image since the Victorian era and continues to be popular even in modern jewelry. It has been an inspiration for jewelry design for ages, often used to symbolize eternity, everlasting love, life and protection.
A very fashionable French snake bracelet from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver and gold-fill, this snake bracelet has a fantastic wraparound look. The flexible band of the bracelet features a mesh, snakeskin-like design, and is decorated with gold-filled floral-motifs. The front of the bracelet features two, intertwining snake heads, which are decorated with three-dimensional repousse-detailing. The repousse-detialing incorporates swirling-motifs and adds a lifelike-quality to the serpents. Each snake features two bezel-set garnet eyes, an open mouth, and pointed teeth. The piece secures with a discreet push clasp. A one-of-a-kind piece, this bracelet would make a wonderful addition to any Victorian-era jewelry collection!
Measurements: The inside of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) measures 2" wide and 1 7/8" tall. However, the bracelet does have a flexible-quality, and would fit most wrists comfortably.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is great. There is no apparent damage to the sterling silver or gold-filled details, and the garnet eyes are secure and intact. The push clasp is secure and in working order.
