A unique Japanese compass pendant from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this pendant depicts a lovely turtle. The front and back of the turtle features highly-intricate engravings, which bring the creature to life. The entire surface of the piece has a natural patina, which adds an antiquated look to the pendant. The shell of the turtle is hinged, and when opened, the piece features a small, round compass. The compass features both the cardinal and ordinal directions, and a central sterling silver compass rose. The compass is covered by a small glass frame. A small complimentary bail is strung through the mouth of the turtle, and would allow the piece to easily be worn on a sterling silver chain. A one-of-a-kind piece, this pendant would make a lovely gift for any traveler or animal enthusiast!
Measurements: The pendant has a total length of 1 3/8" (including the bail) and a width of 5/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, and the piece opens and closes securely. The complimentary bail is securely attached, and the compass is intact and in working order.
