An absolutely incredible lava cameo necklace from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this fantastic piece features five large cameos carved from multi-colored pieces of lava. Each bezel set cameo is skillfully hand-carved to depict five extremely detailed faces surrounded by curled foliage. The ornate 3-dimensional images feature strong facial features, textured hair and shapely cutouts throughout. The lava links are particularly large and graduate in size, displaying wonderful hues of rich reddish brown, sage green, beige, taupe, and grey. Each cameo is separated by two or three stranded gold beaded chain, and the necklace fastens at a large gold push clasp in the back. There is an elegant monogram reading "JES" engraved on the clasp, and a stamp reading "14K" can be found on the tongue. This conversation piece would be a magnificent addition to any collection!
Measurements: The central cameo measures 2 1/4" tall and 1 5/8" wide. Two of the cameos are nearly 1 3/4" in width and nearly 1 1/2" at their tallest points. The outermost cameos measure 1" wide and 1 1/8" at their tallest points. The necklace measures approximately 15.5" in total length.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to any of the lava cameos, the gold beads, or the gold setting. The clasp and safety latch are both secure and in good working condition.
