A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!
A lovely bloodstone fob from the Victorian (1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this piece features a bezel-set piece of bloodstone. The square-shaped stone displays a deep green hue, and features moss-colored and vibrant red inclusions. The backside of the bezel-setting features intricate foliage-motif engravings, and features an engraving-free section, which would allow the wearer to have their monogram added onto the piece. The top of the fob features a three-dimensional lion motif, which has a fabulous lifelike look. A complimentary bail is strung through a ring at the top of the lion, which would allow the wearer to attach the fob to a sterling chain. Additionally, the piece is able to spin, which adds fantastic movement to the piece. A bold fob this piece would make a great addition to any Victorian-era collection!
Measurements: The fob has a total length of 1 1/2" (including the complimentary bail) and measures 1" at its widest point.
Condition:The overall condition of the fob/pendant is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, and the bloodstone is secure and intact. The complimentary bail is intact and in working order.
