A wonderful sterling locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful oval-shaped locket is made of sterling silver and features an attractive three-dimensional design. In the center of the piece is a raised convex oval shape that has a smooth, flat surface. The outside of the locket is surrounded by a border that alternates between small silver studs and flagged tips. Below the raised design is a detailed etched border which runs all the way around the perimeter of the locket. The locket opens to reveal two glass covered places with a purple fabric background. The back of the locket is smooth, and at the top of the piece is a large fluted bail, which is stamped "STERLING SILVER" on the front. This locket is fairly large in size and could be hung from your favorite chain for a very fashionable look!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/4" long, is 1 1/4" wide and 1/2" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no serious damage to the silver or the studded design. There is some normal surface wear to the silver on the center of the locket which is not unusual for a Victorian piece, and is not noticeable when worn. The locket closes easily and fastens securely.
