A beautiful locket from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, both sides of this octagonal locket are decorated with intricate engravings. The front of the pendant features the letters: "AKMcF". The letters are bordered by a triangular-frame and foliage and floral-motif engravings. The front also features a striped design, knot-motifs, and arch-shaped engravings that carry around the entire border of the piece. The backside of the locket is decorated with similar engravings. The top of the piece features an oval-shaped bezel-set faux sapphire, which acts as the opening and closing mechanism of the locket. The inside of the locket features two compartments, which would allow the wearer to insert small mentos. The top of the locket features a complimentary bail, which would allow the locket to be worn on a favorite sterling chain. The inside rim of the locket is marked "STERLING" and "1497". A unique piece, this locket would make a lovely addition to any Victorian-era jewelry collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 3/8" long (including the bail). The locket has a width of 1 3/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no damage to the sterling silver setting, and the faux sapphire is secure and intact. The locket opens and closes securely, and the bail is intact and in working order.
