A unique match safe necklace from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this necklace features a large match safe. The entire surface of the match safe is decorated with highly-intricate three-dimensional repoussé detailing, and includes swirling, floral, foliage, and devil-motifs. The front of the piece features an original personalized engraving, which reads: "FAP". The match safe features a discreet hinge, which allows the piece to open and close. The inside of the match safe features a compartment, which could be used to store matches or another sentimental item. The top of the match safe features a bail, which attaches the piece to a sterling silver chain, which secures with a simple spring ring clasp marked "STERLING". A lovely piece, this match safe necklace would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The match safe measures approximately 2 1/2" tall (including the bail) and has a width of 1 1/4". The chain measures 20".
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver match safe and the lid opens easily and stays securely closed. The bail, chain, and spring ring clasp are all secure and in working order.
