A lavaliere is a delicate chain that suspends one or more gem-set drops, popular in the Edwardian and Art Nouveau periods. The name comes from a 17th century French noblewoman. Lavalieres are light, elegant, and easy to wear with almost anything.

Can the chain length on an antique necklace be changed?

Sometimes. Chains can occasionally be lengthened or shortened, and we can source a period-appropriate chain for a pendant when needed. Because altering an original chain can affect value, we discuss the options with you before making any change.

How do I check the clasp on an antique necklace?

Look for a clasp that closes firmly with an audible click and, on better pieces, a safety catch. We inspect and test every clasp and chain before offering a necklace, and we note any replaced clasp or repair honestly in the description.
