MARSH & CO. Blackened Steel/Platinum Pearl + Diamond Collar Necklace
Marsh & Company opened in the San Francisco area in 1876. Originally selling Asian art, the company soon branched out into jewelry. From the early 1930s to the 1960s the company became well known for its use of oxidized steel in making their unique pieces of jewelry!
This wonderful mid-century Marsh & Company necklace is an exceptional example of the company's unique style! Crafted in blackened steel and platinum, the collar-style necklace features a gorgeous pearl and diamond design which lies beautifully along the neckline. With its bold mixed metals fabrication, the piece is comprised of seven inflexible curved steel links which have a wonderfully dark, matte finish, wrapping around the length of the neck. The elongated links connect at platinum half-loops which are lined with three sparkling diamonds and framed on either side by fine milgraining. Hanging from the center is a triangular-shaped link which adorns a surface of bright white diamonds and supports a single detachable cultured pearl. The diamonds exhibit H-I range color, VS range clarity and collectively have an overall weight of approximately 1.10ctw. The necklace fastens at a secure link clasp in the back detailed with an additional pearl. The cultured pearls have beautiful white color and a rich, shimmery luster that compliments the bold blackened steel design perfectly. The simple black and white color scheme of the design is both versatile and fashionable and the necklace would make a special addition to any Marsh & Company collection!
Measurements: The measures approximately 16" in total length and is approximately 3/8" wide. The diamond and pearl drop center hangs about 2" long and the cultured pearls measure approximately 6.85mm and 8.8mm.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the blackened steel or platinum. The pearl and diamonds are intact, and the clasp is secure and in good working condition.
