Victorian 10kt Carved Agate Intaglio Unisex Ring
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
A fantastic intaglio ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful ring is made of 10kt yellow gold and features a round bezel set agate stone, which has a detailed image carved into the center. The intaglio shows the portrait head of a Greek or Roman figure shown in profile. The agate has a rich, deep brown and burnt sienna color that looks excellent within the yellow gold mounting. The shoulders and band of the ring are very wide, and the shank is stamped "10K" inside, along with a maker's mark. A fabulous intaglio ring, it would look wonderful worn by a man or woman and would make an incredible addition to any Victorian collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of a generous size 9.25 but could easily be resized. The agate intaglio has a diameter of slightly less than 3/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or carved agate intaglio, which is intact.
