Victorian 18kt Rock Quartz Crystal Carved Intaglio Spinner Fob
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!
A gorgeous spinner fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This large rock quartz crystal fob hangs horizontally and has 3 fantastic, hand carved faces. It hangs from a lovely 18kt yellow gold repousse spinner, which is riveted into the side of the rock quartz. The corners and edges of the rock quartz are beautifully faceted to catch the light, giving it a prism-like effect and each side has a different, intricately hand carved intaglio. The images include a beautiful coat of arms, a man wearing a winged hat with the phrase "JE CHER CHE" carved underneath and an ornately carved lion with the word "AUDEO" carved above him. Each carved design is absolutely exquisite, giving the fob a stunning and unique look when worn. The spinner framework is highly detailed with a flowing surface and a scrolled topper. A gold "O" ring rests at the top, allowing to be easily hung and worn from a favorite gold chain. An incredible Victorian piece, it would look spectacular worn everyday and is perfect for any fob collector!
Measurements: The entire piece hangs approximately 2 1/4" long from the top of the "O" ring to the bottom edge of the spinner. The fob is 1 3/8" wide and 1" thick when measured from the side.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold frame and the rock quartz crystal is in excellent condition. The spinner feature moves freely and easily.
