Art Deco Sterling Pink Floral Guilloché Locket Necklace
Guilloché (in English usually Guilloche) is an engraving technique in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched in an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloché surface is then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design shows through the colorful enamel.
A lovely Guilloché enameled necklace from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this beautiful piece is comprised of an octagonal enameled locket that hangs from a complimentary enameled link chain. The surface of the locket displays a feminine floral motif in pastel enameling, with a pale pink center surrounded by a border of delicate roses and garlands of green leaves. Beneath the translucent enameling is an exquisite Guilloché design that shows through to the surface, comprised of very fine etched lines that form a lacy pattern that fans out from the center. The locket opens from the top to reveal two round spaces to store special photographs inside. A removable frame covers the surface of one of the spaces, and is stamped "STERLING" behind the plastic face. At the top of the locket is a hinged sterling bail which attaches to a matching enameled chain with a lorgnette style extension. Eight elongated pink enameled links are interspersed within the fine sterling chain, perfectly complimenting the beautiful locket. The watch swivel style clasp at the center allows the locket to be easily removed from the chain if desired and a second spring ring clasp at the back fastens the chain together. The spring clasp is stamped "935." A lovely keepsake piece, it would make a wonderful addition to any antique collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 1 7/8" long (including the bail), has a 1 1/4" diameter, and is 1/4" thick. The chain measures 28" long, and the locket hangs 2" long from its lorgnette extension.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket and chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting. The enameled Guilloché surface remains in excellent condition, and is free of any chips or significant scratches. The locket opens easily and fastens securely shut, and the hinged bail is in good working order. The removable photo frame inside is intact and the chain clasp is secure and in good working condition.
