Art Deco French 18kt Mixed Metals "Open Book" Signet Ring
A signet ring can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with an intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
A fun and unusual signet ring from the Art Deco (ca1920s) era! Crafted in 18kt yellow and white gold, the ring has a unique "open book" design. The signet centerpiece consists of two smooth "pages" topped in white gold, separated by a gold bar that represents the binding. Completing the design is a wide gold band, which tapers in slightly as it nears the back. The signet pages are left smooth, leaving the possibility to engrave them with a personalized message or set of initials! A small French hallmark is stamped on the back of the band on the exterior. When worn, this stylish unisex ring makes a unique statement piece, and would be at home in any antique collection!
Measurements: The ring has a large finger size 8.75, but could be resized. The "open book" signet centerpiece measures 1/2" across and 5/16" tall. The tapered gold band measures 3mm wide at the back.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the mixed gold setting.
