Victorian English 9kt Horseshoe & Hoof Locket
A fabulous horseshoe locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of 9kt gold (indicating English origin), the locket represents a 3-dimensional horse hoof. A textured horseshoe design decorates the front surface, complete with 7 raised nails along the edges (always 7 for good luck!). The reverse side of the locket has an etched surface with a smooth shield resting in the center, where a set of initials could be engraved if desired. When opened, the locket reveals a space inside to store a special photograph behind glass. The locket hangs from a hammered gold ring at the top and would look wonderful worn on a favorite gold chain. Perfect for the equestrian enthusiast, this Victorian era piece would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 1 1/2" long (including the ring at the top). The locket itself measures 1 1/8" tall, 1" wide, and 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The hinged piece opens easily and stays securely closed, and the glass frame inside is still intact. The ring for hanging is secure and in good condition.
