Victorian Gold-Filled Onyx Intaglio Spinner Fob
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!
A lovely spinner fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Square in shape, the gold-filled fob hangs sideways from a gorgeous spinning hinge. The double-sided spinner features a large onyx plaque in the center, which is smooth on one side and carved with an intricate intaglio image on the other. The carved image shows the profile a Greek or Roman figure, complete with delicate facial features, textured hair, and an ornate headpiece. A beautiful textured border surrounds the intaglio and a decorative swirled topper holds the plaque in place. Attached at the top of the piece is a gold "O" ring which is ideal for hanging from your favorite chain. A spectacular piece, it is perfect for any fob collector and would look incredible worn daily or for special occasions!
Measurements: Laying flat, the spinner fob measures approximately 1 1/4" long from top to bottom, is 7/8" wide, and 1/4" thick. The intaglio plaque is 3/4" wide and tall.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold filled setting, and the onyx intaglio is in fine condition, with no apparent chips. The spinning swivel moves easily and smoothly, and the "O" ring is secure and in good condition.
