Victorian 15kt Petite Multi-Fob Key Ring Pendant
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. Some fobs include carved intaglio images, which would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.
A very impressive multi fob pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This decorative 15kt gold piece is comprised of four individual fobs, which hang from an engraved gold key ring. Each of the petite fobs has a very ornate design, complete with a signet stone at the base (an amethyst, a white chalcedony, and two carnelian stones). One of the carnelian stones is left smooth, while the others are engraved with intaglio images. The intaglios include a floral motif, a peace dove with an olive branch, and the initial "M" in calligraphy. Beautiful hand-crafted accents complete the handle of each fob, including fine engraving and ornate repousse work. The gold key ring could be opened at the split seam (though not recommended), but remains securely closed. A very special Victorian piece, it would look outstanding paired with a special chain, and is a must for the antique fob collector!
Measurements: The key ring 3/4" in size. The fobs vary in size and shape, measuring between 3/4" to 7/8" in length, and 1/4" to 1/2" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold split ring or to any of the fob settings, all of which are securely attached. The intaglio seals are all intact and free of any significant chips or scratches.
