The acorn is a traditional good luck emblem that has long been considered a symbol of strength, prosperity, patience, renewal, and growth. These attributes are partially inspired by nature itself; a mighty oak tree grows from a tiny acorn, giving significance not only to the tree, but to the seed itself.  Acorns became a popular jewelry motif dating back to the early Victorian era, and are often depicted in a wonderful range of materials and styles. Their beautiful renderings and sentimental symbolism are still valued in the modern day, making antique acorn jewelry very special!

A beautiful coral acorn necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This stunning necklace features an ensemble of hand carved coral links that hang from an 18kt gold chain in a festoon fashion. The graduated acorns have a wonderful 3-dimensional appearance, with textured detail at the caps and a smooth surface at the base. The natural coral displays a lovely light salmon color with soft white hues throughout. Floral accents are also incorporated into the design, including two carved flower links made of coral, and five gold flower links that act as surmounts to each dangling acorn. The necklace fastens with a gold hook clasp at the back of the chain. When worn, the acorn links drape beautifully at the neckline, creating an elegant and feminine appearance. Perfect for the coral lover, this wonderful autumnal piece would make a special addition to any antique collection!

Measurements: The necklace measures 19 1/2" long. The central festoon strand hangs 1 1/2” long (including the coral bead surmount at the top). Each acorn varies in size and shape. The largest acorn measures 3/4” long and 1/2” wide and thick. The medium acorns are 5/8” long and 1/4” wide and thick. The two smallest acorns are 3/8” long and 1/4” wide and thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carved coral links, which are free of chips or scratches. The hook clasp is secure and in good working condition.
