Victorian 9kt "Lion Motif" Multi Agate 3-Way Spinner Fob
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!
An unusual multi-sided spinner fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 9kt gold, the fob is of English origin and boasts a stately lion that stands proudly at the top of the handle. The 3-sided fob design holds a trio of agate stones, which are richly colored and smoothly polished. Included in the ensemble of stones are carnelian, bloodstone, and sardonyx, giving wonderful and colorful variety to the design. The side of the fob is stamped with two English hallmarks, including "9CT" and the maker's initials "FLD." A simply beautiful piece, this wonderful fob would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The entire fob hangs 1 1/4" long, measures 1" across at the widest point, and is 5/8" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or spinner function, which moves freely and easily. All three agate stones are intact and securely set, and are free of any noticeable chips or scratches. There is a natural patina on the surface of the gold, which is normal for a Victorian era piece and adds to its unique appearance and character.
