CARRINGTON & CO. Edwardian 18k Carved Essex Crystal Hound Dog Cufflinks

SKU: 45605

Reverse carved crystal is a technique created by cutting rock quartz crystal into a convex form and then polishing it into a cabochon shape. An image is carved into the flat side of the crystal and then hand painted. From the front, the picture appears to be almost three-dimensional. Many different images were used in reverse carved crystal jewelry and artwork, but animals were some of the most common motifs.

A gorgeous and unusual pair of reverse carved crystal cufflinks from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! Each 18k yellow gold piece adorns a different type of hound or hunting dog carved within the crystal pieces. The incredibly detailed motifs depict the dogs perked up at attention, ready to strike at their targets. Intricate hand-painted detail throughout amazingly portrays two short-haired hounds on one of the cufflinks; one with brown spots, and one with reddish-orange spots amongst white coats. The opposite cufflink shows two more hounds of the long-hair variety, one with black spots and one all brown pup. The bezel set rock crystal cabochons rest in a rounded frame with a closed back. A simple link rests across the back of each pair of bezel-set crystals. The original fitted box for these cufflinks is included with purchase. A very unique and attractive pair of cufflinks, they would look wonderful worn by a man or woman!

Measurements: Each rock crystal cufflink face measures approximately 5/8" long, about 1/2" wide, and 1/4" thick. The connector chain on the back measure about 5/8" long.

Condition: The overall condition of the cufflink set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to gold setting.
