A stylish and romantic padlock pendant necklace from the late Victorian (ca1899) era! Crafted in 9kt rosy-yellow gold, this English-made piece is comprised of a heart shaped pendant which hangs from a complimentary chain. The smooth surface of the pendant is studded with four "screws" and finished with a realistic keyhole at the center. A looped handle at the top also functions as the clasp, and can be pulled opened and snapped into place using a lever on the side. Attached at the top is a simple bail, which hangs from a modern twisted roped chain that fastens with a spring ring clasp, stamped with a "14K" gold purity mark. Several English hallmarks are found on the back and top of the pendant, including an anchor (indicating it was assayed in Birmingham), a "9" and "375" gold purity marks, along with the date letter "Z" dating this piece to 1899. A fabulous and stylish Victorian piece that blends seamlessly into modern day fashion, it would make a perfect addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures 16" long. The padlock charm measures approximately 1" tall (including the bail), 5/8" wide, and 1/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting and the chain clasp and padlock handle are secure and in good working order. There is a some slight color variation along the surface of the pendant, however, it is very subtle in person and more prominent in the images.
