Victorian Sterling + Carved Multi-Colored Lava Cameo Necklace 15"
An incredible lava cameo necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This outstanding piece is crafted in sterling silver and comprised of 5 large cameos, each one carved from a different color of lava. The cameos rest in a lovely scalloped bezel setting, and each one displays a raised, hand-carved image of an angelic cherub in a unique interaction. The 3-dimensional images feature exceptional detail, including feathered wings and delicate facial features, and all of the cherubs are pictured interacting with different animals, including an eagle, lamb, dog, or mythological creature. The lava displays wonderful earthy tones of sage green, burnt sienna, taupe, and soft white, which are unusual, and add wonderful pops of color to the design. Each cameo is separated by two sections of interlocking chain links, and the necklace fastens in the back at a smoothly polished push clasp. The necklace has a rich, distinguished appearance that would make a fabulous statement piece when worn!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 15" long. Each cameo measures approximately 1 3/8" tall, about 1 1/8" wide, and is approximately 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting and the clasp is secure and in good working condition. Two of the cameos have minor chips along the edge which very minor and hardly noticeable when worn.
